First Week of 3rd Grade

We have officially almost completed our first week of 3rd grade and it has been a wonderful 4 days. Looping up together made for a very stress free and easy going week. We have spent this week enjoying being back together, catching up, reviewing our "way of life" in our classroom, and getting started on 3rd grade fun!

Here we are on the first day of school.

On the first day we did a teamwork challenge with our table partners. The partners had to work together to help Fred (the gummy worm) whose boat (the cup) flipped over onto his life preserver (gummy candy ring) while sailing. Each using two paperclips they had to get the life preserver out from underneath the cup and onto Fred without touching anything with their hands. We discussed teamwork and how important communication is.

Reviewing the structure and procedures to our Reading Block (Daily 5) has been a big part of our week.

We have started setting up our Science Notebooks. We visited the Science Lab to observe the tools we will use this year. After observing and discussing them, we added a glossary with the tools in our notebooks. Everyones favorite by far were the goggles. They were pumped to try them on.

In Math we have been reviewing Place Value. We are preparing for the big jump to Thousands, Ten Thousands, and Hundred Thousands coming up very soon (NEXT WEEK! EEK). Today we played a game which I call Triangle Wars to review numerical value with ones, tens, and hundreds. They loved it! I hope they can teach you the rules at home so you can play with them.

I'm so excited to see the growth these kiddos will make this year. I can't wait to be there to watch their brains work and explore. It's going to be a great one!

Texas Rangers Baseball Classroom

Being that my kiddos and I moved to the "big kid" (3-5) hallway, I decided to change things up. Last year our room was jungle themed but it's had a complete change of design (except for the gold chair... we could never get rid of the gold chair). The room is decorated with Texas Ranger's baseball colors and touches. Here is our new classroom:

I think the kids will really enjoy reading in our new stadium seats.

I can't wait to see my sweet kiddos tomorrow morning for our first day of 3rd grade.
