Matter, Place Value, Writing, and Tons of FUN!

Wow! We had tons of things happening last week and the time flew by.

In Science, we are learning about matter and their properties. We did a fun Solid, Liquid, and Gas lesson. We started with warm water and vinegar (our liquid) in a ziplock bag. Inside, we dropped baking soda wrapped in a Kleenex (our solid). We watched as the reaction caused the bag to fill up with gas. The kids loved it!

When looking at the properties of matter we went to the habitat to observe various objects. We recorded our observations in our science notebooks.

In Math, we have continued on with place value. We have been playing a game where the students each have two dominos. When they flip the domino over they record their number. The team (without talking) places themselves in order from greatest to least. It turned into a fun competition where we timed the teams to see how fast they could put themselves in order.
During Writing in Daily 5 the students keep their personal writing journals. Every Friday we will do author's circle where they have the option to read something from their journal. I was happy to see that many wanted to share.

Since the last post we had our first Pride Rally.
We had our first Watch D.O.G.S. (Dad's of Great Students) volunteer from our class. Thanks for helping out around the school Mr.Nieves.
Remember that every Friday we will go to the library. Try and always remember to bring back your books on Friday.
A special thanks to one of our class families who has started Overflow Church of Grand Prairie for sending the teachers a special Starbucks treat on Friday. We all appreciated it very much! Thanks!

We have started a classroom "Dry Erase Marker Challenge". The student who can keep up with their dry erase marker the longest, without it drying out, will receive 100 Ranger Bucks.

Many new and fun things have already began to happen this week so be on the look out for a new post very soon.

Thank You,
Ms. Sellers
