Plot and Daily 5

Today was a very exciting day for our class. We had a visitor named Plot Pamela come and teach our Reading lesson. Plot Pamela told us that she loves the story element "plot". Being that Plot Pamela loves plot, she loves Fiction books (where we find plot). She also loves slides because they are very similar to the plot in a story. You start with the Exposition (bottom of slide), the Rising Action (stairs going up), the story Climax ( top of the slide), the Falling Action (going down the slide), and the Resolution (bottom of the slide).

After discussing the parts, Plot Pamela had the kids take that thought out to the playground and see what it would look like.
Each part was labeled on the slide. As the kids walked through the plot they said the part which they were on.

The kids loved Plot Pamela and I think the concept really started to sink in. They want her to visit again before the STAAR test so I might see if I can pull some strings. ;)
(Keep your eyes out and ears open for the OTHER guest we will have this year to teach us different parts of a story.)

In Daily 5 this week we have built up our "Read to Self" and "Read to Someone" stamina to 30 minutes each.  Being that we did Daily 5 last year and we looped up (and our new friends did Daily 5 last year) we have been able to make remarkable stamina goals and reach them. This is one of the fabulous perks that comes with looping.

Read to Self:

Read to Someone:
When I'm working with students our class number is sometimes odd so we have also practiced building our writing stamina.

Celebrating that we reached our 30 minute stamina goals:

I hope you have enjoyed this post as much as we have enjoyed our week. More exciting things happening every day and coming your way!
